Why do we need this information?

Student’s Information and Date of Birth: With a full studio, it is possible that we may have more than one student sharing the same first name. If no last name is provided for the student, it is assumed to be the same as the parent’s/guardian’s for scheduling purposes. The student’s date of birth is primarily important for minors. This helps us determine the potential level of understanding they will possess and which curriculum would be best to recommend. The difference in a few months for some students (mainly kindergarten and late elementary ages) may be the deciding factor between curriculums for beginners.

Parent’s/Guardian’s Name and Contact Information: All students under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s contact information listed for communication, billing, and contractual purposes. Email will be the primary method of communication for tuition reminders and studio announcements (recitals, studio events, policy updates, etc.), but text is the best method for last-minute communications or individual questions or concerns.

Student Learning Challenges: Similarly, if the student has any learning challenges, it may determine how the teacher plans for the student’s lessons. Challenges such as ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, autism, Down Syndrome, dyscalculia, etc. may require prior notice and additional planning on the teacher’s part to ensure the student receives adequate accommodations in their lessons.

Photo Permissions: Although we don’t take photos/videos of students often, we do take individual and group photos at recitals and like to celebrate our students’ special achievements like completing a lesson book, composing their own piece, or doing an outstanding job on their lesson assignments. If you decide to grant permission to share photos or videos of the student, we may occasionally share their achievements with our other studio families on Facebook, but if you would prefer the student not to be posted on social media, we will also honor that request with no questions asked and hide the student’s face before posting any group recital photos.

FAQ

When can my child start piano lessons?

We accept students as early as five years old. If your child is able to move their fingers independently, focus on a task for several minutes at a time, and be cooperative in a class setting, they may be ready for piano lessons. Bonus points if they have shown a personal interest in music!

Where are piano lessons held?

All in-person lessons are held at Charity Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. Under certain circumstances where lessons may not be held in person, the teacher may arrange for lessons to be taken via Zoom.

When is tuition due? How can I make payments?

Tuition is due by the 1st of each month (e.g. tuition for January is due by January 1st). Reminders will be sent via email one week prior. Payments may be made by cash, check, Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle. We do not currently accept credit card payments.

What materials will students need for lessons?

Each student should bring his/her lesson book and any additional assigned music to each lesson. Students are welcome to bring a pencil and notepad if they would like to write their own practice notes during the lesson. Each student also needs a home piano or digital keyboard to practice assigned music between lessons.

What kind of piano do I need for home practice?

Students should have either an acoustic piano or full-sized (88-key) digital keyboard with weighted keys. If buying a used acoustic piano, check that all keys and the damper pedal are working properly. If buying a keyboard, keep in mind that a straightforward keyboard with 88 weighted keys will be more valuable to a beginner than a keyboard with lots of buttons and sounds. Budget-friendly pianos and keyboards in good condition can often be found on Facebook Marketplace.

A few popular brands with student-grade models are Yamaha, Roland, Casio, Alesis, and Williams. For recommendations on keyboards within various budgets, check out this article.

Will my child have opportunities to meet and interact with other students?

Yes, students are given opportunities to participate in studio events and meet other students of all ages and levels. Attending recitals, studio events, and summer classes are some of the ways students can meet each other and make new friends!
